Privacy Policy

Overview

Tonigrams ("we," "us," or "our") lets family and friends record stories, songs, and messages that play on a child's Creative Tonie. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials through Firebase Authentication (Google sign-in).

Audio recordings. When you record a Tonigram, we collect the audio file along with the name and story title you provide.

Tonies account credentials. To sync stories to your Creative Tonie, we store your Tonies account connection details.

Phone number. If you choose to save a phone number, we use it to (a) send the periodic SMS recording reminders you opt in to, and (b) identify you when you call our dedicated Tonigrams call-in number to leave a story by phone, so we can attach the recording to the right Tonigrams account. You can update or remove your number at any time, and you can turn off SMS reminders independently of the call-in feature.

Phone-call recordings. When you call the Tonigrams call-in number, the audio of your call is recorded by Twilio and processed by us as a Tonigram, the same way an in-app recording would be.

Usage data. We may collect basic usage information such as pages visited and actions taken within the app.

How We Use Your Information

• Delivering Tonigrams. Audio recordings are processed, moderated, and synced to the designated Creative Tonie.
• AI content moderation. Recordings are reviewed by AI to help ensure content is appropriate for children before it reaches the parent's approval queue.
• Story generation. If you use the Story Helper, your prompt is sent to an AI service to generate story text.
• Reminders. If you subscribe to reminders, we use your phone number to send periodic SMS messages via Twilio.
• Call-in recording. If you save your phone number, you may call our dedicated number to leave a story by voice. We use your number only to identify which Tonigrams account the recording belongs to.
• Account management. Your email is used for authentication and account-related communications.

SMS Messaging Program

If you save a phone number in Tonigrams and turn on text reminders, you are opting in to receive recurring transactional SMS messages from Tonigrams. This section describes the program in the form Twilio and U.S. carriers require us to disclose.

• Program name. Tonigrams Recording Reminders.
• What you'll receive. A short, friendly text reminding you (or whoever saved their number) to record a story for the child whose Tonigrams library the number is associated with. We may also send a one-time confirmation text when you first save your number, and operational replies to HELP requests.
• Message frequency. Recurring; no more than 2 messages per month per saved phone number. You choose the cadence (every 2 weeks or once a month) when you opt in, and you can change it any time.
• How to opt in. Inside the Tonigrams web app, on the "Texts & call-in" card (and the equivalent setup steps), enter your phone number, leave the "Text me reminders" toggle on, and tap Save. The same screen displays the consent disclosures, message frequency, fee disclosure, and opt-out instructions before you tap Save.
• How to opt out. Reply STOP to any Tonigrams SMS at any time, or turn off "Text me reminders" inside the app. Once you opt out we'll stop the reminders; you can turn them back on at any time.
• How to get help. Reply HELP to any Tonigrams SMS, or email support@tonigrams.com.
• Carriers and fees. Message and data rates may apply, and exact charges depend on your mobile plan and carrier. Tonigrams does not charge a fee to send or receive these messages. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
• Eligibility. The SMS program is intended for U.S. mobile users age 18 or older. By opting in, you confirm that you are the subscriber of, or an authorized user of, the mobile number you submit.
• No third-party sharing of opt-in data. Your mobile phone number, your consent to receive SMS, and any opt-in data we collect for this messaging program are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. We share your phone number only with Twilio (our SMS service provider) solely to deliver the messages you opted in to.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Tonigrams:

• Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, and hosting
• Twilio — SMS delivery for recording reminders, and inbound voice calls for the call-in recording feature
• AI services — content moderation and story generation
• Tonies API — syncing audio content to Creative Tonies

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

Data Retention

Audio recordings are retained as long as your account is active or until you delete them. Approved recordings that have been synced to a Tonie may persist on the Tonie hardware independently of our service.

If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and recordings from our systems. Some data may persist in backups for a limited period.

Children's Privacy

Tonigrams is designed for use by adults (parents, grandparents, family, and friends). Children do not create accounts or interact with the service directly. The audio content created through Tonigrams is intended to be played on a child's Tonie, but the child does not use our website or app.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures provided by Firebase and Google Cloud to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. If you have an account, you can delete your recordings and account data through the app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of Tonigrams after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
